Zhejiang TV launches its new International TV Center with Lawo equipment
In the complex, which consists of 42 floors and houses several television studios, Lawo has installed its mc²36 and mc²66 consoles, along with Dallis stageboxes and Nova37 and Nova73 matrices.
The installation's audio is based on a Ravenna digital network, controlled and monitored by Lawo's Virtual Studio Manager (VSM), making it the first complete network of broadcast studios in China, with central arrays distributing each required signal so that it is accessible by all studios within the complex.
Owned by the local government, ZRTG operates twelve television channels and eight radio channels, providing a total of 450 hours of broadcasting each day. Its satellite channel is the most successful in China, broadcasting popular programs such as Sing China! y Running Man.
The ZRTG International TV Center has two studio networks already in use. The main studio network consists of four large studios of 2,500m², 1200m², 600m² (A) and 600m² (B). All studios are interconnected through a Lawo Nova73 routing system and video routing systems controlled and monitored by VSM. In this way, each audio and video signal can be shared and distributed to the control room where it is required. The audio network is designed using a Nova73 central array and four 56-fader mc²66 consoles in each control room. The studio control rooms have access to ten centrally installed Dallis stageboxes redundantly connected to a Nova73 array via Ravenna, facilitating box-free signal sharing on local stages.
The 600 m² Studio A control room also serves as the control room for the smaller 200 m² studio, where audio is mixed using a Pro Tools HDX and Pyramix DAW. The 56-fader mc²66 can simultaneously control the virtual faders of both DAWs. There is also a Waves SoundGrid system in the Studio A control room, which is designed to be moved to any of the other three studios if necessary.
Flexibility
For the production of Sing China!, the broadcaster uses one control room for multitrack recording and final mixing, another control room for live music mixing and the third control room for full backup. Using this flexible configuration, Nova73 also provides mic line management with a GUI on each mc²66 to define which console has control rights for the mic preamps on each card.
The station's Home Shopping channel uses the other two studios (600m² and 250m²), each of which is equipped with a 40-fader mc²36 console. There is also a Nova37 array for sharing wireless microphones and de-embedded signals. By operating in this way, the purchasing channel not only saves the cost of distributing the de-embedded signal, but can also make use of all the wireless microphones for a studio.
In addition to the Lawo audio infrastructure, ZRTG has also invested in Lawo consoles for its new 4K mobile units currently being launched in the Netherlands and which will integrate the Lawo mc²66 and two mc²56 consoles.
