Mediapro launches a new international jumping competition with a television format
The new competition, which aims to revolutionize the way equestrian sports are consumed with a shocking television show in which riders become heroes by facing their rivals face to face, follows the line of the major international tennis tournaments.
Mediapro aims to give the sector to the equestrian sector thanks to the association with JumpingClash Challenge, a new equestrian competition model that seeks to transform the discipline of show jumping and the way it is consumed by the general public. The new competition, which follows the television format of major tennis tournaments, will be presented next month at Madrid Horse Week. With this decision, the communication group seeks to further diversify its sports content portfolio through a novel format that promises to revolutionize equestrian competition.
Increasing knowledge of show jumping to a more global audience and giving it a modern format designed for television broadcast are the main objectives of the alliance between JumpingClash Challenge and Mediapro. The focus is on the creation of a world circuit through agreements with important event promoters on different continents with whom negotiations have already been opened. The idea of creating a new show jumping competition designed for a television format was born in 2011, promoted by Daniel Entrecanales and Pablo Márquez, linked to the equestrian world in the sports and business fields. They are currently president and executive director respectively of Madrid Horse Week, the largest multidisciplinary equestrian event in Spain.
The project also has the support of great personalities in the sector, such as the Spanish rider Sergio Álvarez, number one in the national ranking, or the famous Brazilian rider Doda de Miranda, among others. They also have the favor of some international organizations such as the IJRC (International Jumping Riders Club), a key institution within equestrian sport that represents the top 100 riders in the world ranking and encourages cooperation between athletes and promoters.
Since the constitution of Jumpingclash in 2011 until now, work has been done to publicize the project until, in 2016, the recognition of this competition by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and its definitive approval of the sports format were achieved. The basic idea is to develop a television program never seen to date in the field of equestrian, putting the most modern techniques and media at the service of the sport.
This is an unprecedented model that incorporates a pyramidal elimination system (following the scheme of other sports such as tennis) through several rounds of confrontations between riders. The excitement and easy understanding of the matches aim to bring equestrian sport closer to the general public. Likewise, it aims to break with the established canons: put aside the tradition and sobriety that governed equestrian sport to achieve a much more spectacular aesthetic. With all this, the objective is to gain loyalty from a general audience, bringing them closer to a sport that until now had only been consumed by a few connoisseurs; The latter, in turn, will be surprised by the novel nature of the format.
Following its line of transversal integration of services, Mediapro participates in JumpingClash Challenge through different avenues of action. Firstly, the management of your rights, which is presented as one of the key points taking into account the international nature of the project.
The group will also collaborate in the audiovisual production of the television program, quintupling the average investment dedicated to the current competitions that exist for broadcast on television. For this production, Mediapro will have the most innovative capture techniques with on-board, ground and aerial cameras and micro cameras on obstacles.
In addition, the company will be in charge of the global marketing of the format, for which it already has several interested channels, including GOL, which plans to include in its programming the global launch of the competition in Madrid this coming November during the celebration of Madrid Horse Week 2016. Finally, Mediapro has also taken on the task of exploiting digital betting, a field that is little developed with regard to the show jumping discipline and for which this format is particularly suitable.
