The first international event dedicated exclusively to the co-production of fiction series for television between Europe, Latin America and the Spanish-speaking United States celebrates its second edition in Santiago de Compostela between June 18 and 21.

Conecta Fiction 2018

Conecta Fiction It celebrated its first day promoting meetings between television fiction producers and promoting co-production between Europe and Latin America.

Conecta Fiction 2018The event began early in the morning with a presentation by Atresmedia Studios in which Ignacio Corrales, director general, Sonia Martinez, director of fiction and Ignacio Manubens, director de contenidos, ofrecieron su visión del panorama audiovisual a nivel global.

The Ministry of Time, which was about the concept of the showrunner. Olivares summarized the function of this figure by saying that he is the person in charge of supervising that the initial spirit of the series or film comes out at the end of the screen. He also explains that although the word showrunner is quite current, the concept has been around since the 90s. He also does not hesitate to point out that the characters are, without a doubt, the key to all fiction. He also adds that "playing a character means not telling lies" and that "characters should not say everything they feel. In real life we are very silent."

Throughout the workshop, Olivares highlighted series such as House of Cards o Lost as examples of successful projects whose plots, despite not being simple, captivated the audience. He precisely praised and recalled the importance of the following reflection: “the creator has to make a series that allows us to understand the world in which we live.”

At mid-morning the intervention of Mariana Perez, of Fox Networks Latam. In its presentation, attendees were able to learn about six successful projects in Latin America produced by this company. The objective is to show the topics in which they are interested for future co-productions: stories based on real events or stories that can occur anywhere in Latin America to connect with the public, among others. He also wanted to highlight that every Fox talent has a career on the channel.

The projects presented in this session were Here the Earth –a story about corruption that was selected for the first Cannes Series Festival-, #Mechamade Bruna –a series based on real events that tells the life of a woman who voluntarily chose to work as a prostitute-, Besieged -a period-historical series-, one against all – a production also based on real events that deals with topics such as drug trafficking- and Run, Coyote, run – a black comedy that addresses the United States border and the passage of people to that country from Mexico.

To close this panel, Mariana presented a project they are working on: He hosts, a totally new format in which they mix fiction and unscripted reality. In addition, they include musical parts in all programs.

The afternoon session featured a presentation by VSC Capital, an innovative project led by Francisco Cordero and Marco Forte. VSC is the only private equity investment fund that seeks to invest and develop audiovisual projects. The fund generates opportunities among audiovisual creators while incubating talents and accelerating projects. At the moment they have already received and evaluated 120 projects in the fund, of which they have invested in 9, two of which are television.
