Arista and Nevion have developed a joint solution that includes tight integration of Nevion's orchestration and SDN control, VideoIPath, with Arista's Extensible Operating System (EOS).

Nevion, a Norwegian company specialized in virtualized media production solutions, has closed an alliance with the American Arista Networks to provide network solutions focused on the broadcast industry.

Arista and Nevion have developed a joint solution that includes tight integration of the Nevion orchestration and control of SDN, VideoIPath, with the Extensible Operating System (Extensible Operating System, EOS) from Arista. This solution will be demonstrated at the Arista booth (8.E30) in IBC 2018 in Amsterdam, from September 13 to 18, 2018. This line of collaboration will also allow Nevion to act as a distributor of cloud networking solutions powered by Arista software.

Andy Rayner, chief technology officer at Nevion, explains "the broadcast industry is experiencing the marriage of the specific requirements of broadcasting and standard IP networking technology. In particular, live production requires very low latency, 100% reliable, high bandwidth transport of video, audio and data signals over LANs and WANs. Our joint solution meets all of this."

As part of this collaboration, Nevion's VideoIPath SDN control system has been expanded to include support for Arista's EOS OpenConfig API. This allows VideoIPath to create deterministic connections over local and wide area IP networks, including redundant routes, as well as manage bandwidth, ensuring the performance required for live video streaming.
VideoIPath also controls Nevion's software-defined media nodes, Virtuosos, which provide the special broadcast media processing and transport capabilities of the global joint solution.

Ed Chapman, vice president of business development at Arista, highlights that “the combination of Nevion's media orchestration and Arista's EOS media and entertainment-specific APIs delivers the control, reliability and scalability needed for today's high-definition/4k broadcast networks.”
