Reyes Maroto is committed to the digital industry as the protagonist of the new economic model

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism inaugurates the 32nd edition of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications Meeting organized by AMETIC in Santander.

For the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, we are "facing the challenge of digital transformation, which is one of the main levers for improving economic growth, business competitiveness and social welfare". This was expressed at the inauguration of the 32nd Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications, organized by AMETIC, the employers' association of the Spanish technology and digital sector. These traditional conferences, inaugurated this Monday at the Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander, mark the beginning of the course of the sector, raising the challenges in innovation and technology of the industry in Spain.

In this sense, for Reyes Maroto, this transformation has provided unprecedented levels of growth and well-being, but it is necessary promoting a new economic model, in which the digital industry is one of the main protagonists, especially for its role as a technological facilitator and pre-agent for the rest of the industrial and economic sectors. To this end, the Minister has focused on the development of the Digital entrepreneurship and the accompaniment of traditional companies in their transformation, through actions that allow them to face new challenges. "From the ministry, we are committed to promoting investment in innovation and technologies associated with digitalization, promoting entrepreneurship and promoting the attraction of talent, one of the pending tasks that our companies have," he explained.

Maroto has declared that the Government is committed to promoting the digital transformation of the economy and society. To this end, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism is promoting multiple actions, including, Promoting digitalization in industry and services, develop a Modernization of retail and launch a Smart Tourist Destinations Network.

To conclude the inauguration of the AMETIC Meeting, the Minister addressed the participants and stressed that "the Government cannot address this challenge alone. You are the true protagonists of this revolution and we must work together to face it successfully."

Sharing experiences

Together with Reyes Maroto, Pedro Mier, the president of AMETIC, also spoke at the opening of the conference, who focused on the most important objective of this Meeting: to learn and share experiences among all the actors in the digital world. He also stressed the importance of boosting the technology sector. "Only by having a powerful digital industry will Spanish society be able to benefit from change," he stressed.

"The entry of a new government is a magnificent opportunity to propose and share policies and actions, which is why AMETIC proposes to the public administration a series of demands that we hope to see reflected in the General Budget," explained Mier. These actions include the promotion and support of the development of enabling technologies, support for the Tractor Projects plan and the creation of a favourable environment for all actors in the digital economy.

Co-organized with Banco de Santander, this 32nd edition, whose motto is Giving voice to the digital industry, addresses individual interventions and round tables that deal with major innovation issues from different perspectives: the impact of Artificial Intelligence on business and society; the use of data for digital business; the connected car and sustainable mobility; Blockchain; digital talent; the future of smart territories and cities, or digital health, among others.
