Isaki Lacuesta achieves his second Golden Shell in San Sebastián for 'Entre dos Aguas'
The Argentine Benjamín Naishtat obtains the Silver Shell for best director for 'Rojo', a film that also earned Pedro Sotero the award for best photography.
The director Isaki Lacuesta has achieved a feat rarely repeated in the San Sebastian Film Festival: win the Golden Shell on two occasions, the first in 2011, with the controversial The double steps and this year, unanimously by the jury, with between two waters.
between two waters tells the story of Isra and Cheíto, two gypsy brothers: Isra was sentenced to prison for drug trafficking and Cheíto enlisted in the Marine Corps. When Isra is released from prison and Cheíto returns from a long mission, they return to the island of San Fernando. The reunion between both brothers brings with it memories of the violent death of their father when they were just children.
Twelve years have passed since The legend of time, Lacuesta's film when Isra and Cheíto were teenagers. Now Isra returns to San Fernando to recover his wife and daughters. But how will he manage to get ahead in the place with the highest unemployment rate in Spain? Their search for redemption, their need to put their lives in order and reconcile with each other brings Isra and Cheíto together once again.
On the other hand, the Argentine Benjamín Naishtat (history of fear, 2014; The movement, 2015) achieved the Silver Shell for best director for his movie Rojo, about the preludes to the dictatorship of 1976-1983.
The film is set in 1975 in a random Argentine province and describes the climate of ultranationalism, fear and bourgeois hypocrisy that led to the coup the following year.
Rojo It also earned him the award for best photography to Pedro Sotero (Doña Clara, Neighboring Sounds, Casa Grande…). When he was in the middle of filming, the film's producer, Federico Eibuszy, collected the award on his behalf.
