With a participation of 45.46% of the census, she has obtained 178 votes in favor, thus becoming the first woman to preside over the institution.

The journalist María Casado has been elected president of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This has been decided by a majority of the members of the Institution who have voted during the electoral process. With a 45.46% share of the census, it has obtained 178 votes in favor. Casado has surpassed the number of votes of the other two candidacies headed by Diego Carcedo and Pepe Carbajo.

María Casado becomes the first woman to preside over the institution over the next four years. His election is the result of the electoral process convened on September 9, 2018 succeeding Manuel Campo Vidal in office who has been president of the entity for the last 12 years.

María Casado thanked "the academics for the extensive trust they have placed in me and my team. It is up to us to promote a new stage of the Academy. I am grateful for the high participation, which demonstrates the commitment and interest in change and the relaunch of this Institution in which we all fit, those who are here and those who will come. I am committed to leading this stage with and for all academics and to make together an institution that is a symbol of television that is made in our languages. Very grateful and hopeful."

In addition, the new Board of Directors will be composed of a team of 23 professionals from different areas of television: Fernando Navarrete, Beatriz Maesso, Pepe Quílez, María José Peláez, Rafael Galán, Joana Carrión, Pedro Olloqui, Juan Ramón Gonzalo, Valentín Carrera, Macarena Rey, Jesús Lozano, Pilar Socorro, Jacinto García Alonso, Pepa Sánchez Biezma, Tacho de la Calle, Pilar Vergara, Carlos Castel, Alexa Portillo, Paco Moreno, Rosa Díez Urrestarazu, Jota Abril, Tomás Molina and José David Suero.

The Electoral Board that presided over the elections was made up of: Marisa Castelo (president), Juan Francisco Martín (vice-president), Francisco Javier López Gil, Santiago Alonso and Marto Egido.
