The Ministry of Culture and the TV Academy join forces to strengthen television as a cultural industry
A new collaboration agreement will serve as a framework for carrying out activities that promote television and audiovisual creation as a cultural industry by the Ministry of Culture and the Academy of Television and Audiovisual Sciences and Arts.
Television is considered a crucial cultural and creative industry in Spain since, according to the Analysis of the television industry audiovisual of 2023, has more than 686 companies related to the television sector and employs more than 19.000 personas. Under this premise, the TV Academy promotes a series of professional events and performances to which the Ministry of Culture is now joining to expand its presence on the national and international scene, promote the professionalization of the sector and generate connections with the Spanish cultural industry in general.
Among its lines of action, the celebration of the Iris Awards, created in 1998, around which it carries out various activities that serve to highlight the professional excellence of the nominated people and increase the national and international visibility of the Spanish audiovisual industry. Similarly, from 2023, it organizes the Academy breakfasts to create a meeting point between professionals in the sector, where they can talk about topics of common interest and promote networking between speakers and attendees. These talks are held in different locations nationwide and are recorded for dissemination through the Academia TV website to a wide audience.
Through this agreement, the signing of which has been staged by Carmen Paez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, and Maria Casado, president of the Television Academy, both institutions guarantee the continuity of these and other professional activities during the next four years and they consolidate a long relationship marked by their common interest in the promotion of television and audiovisual creation. Among the purposes of the agreement is to make visible the value and impact of television within the framework of cultural industries; promote quality and innovation in Spanish audiovisual production; recognize the talent of its professionals and contribute to their training, and encourage debate and reflection on the role of television in today's society.
As pointed out by the Undersecretary of Culture, Carmen Paez, "this agreement serves to value television as a cultural product within a more complex and diverse audiovisual ecosystem, without forgetting its social and democratic function. This collaboration allows the consolidation of a stable space for dialogue and debate within the audiovisual sector and throughout the territory, a structured space where the main professional and cultural challenges of the industry will be addressed, such as the use of Artificial Intelligence, the internationalization of the audiovisual market, the promotion of diversity and gender equality in programs and content or the incorporation of young professionals to the labor market.”
