Austrian football reaches viewers around the world using a wide range of LiveU technology

Sportradar Media Services is the A/V production arm of Sportradar, providing contribution, production and distribution services for online and linear television. Operates the international sports channel Laola1.tv and its OTT platform, Austria's leading sports portal.

Christoph Reiermann, director of broadcast production at Sportradar highlights that "in 2018, Sportradar won the exclusive rights to the Austrian Second Football League. In order to offer the level of coverage, dynamism and flexibility we wanted, at an affordable price, we looked at cellular tethering. We tested many different systems and found that LiveU was the most capable of delivering a very stable signal with great image quality even at low latency. ETAS has also provided strong support."

All production equipment is equipped with HEVC LU600 units. Up to eight simultaneous channels are streamed to LiveU servers in Sportradar's main control room (MCR), where the channels are post-processed: live commentary is added, content is encoded for live broadcast and delivered to the linear television broadcast. Although all matches are available live on Laola1.tv; at least 30 matches are broadcast exclusively on Laola1TV (OTT and linear TV) and another 30 matches are broadcast on Austrian television.

Sportradar Media Services also uses LiveU MultiPoint to easily share feeds with other content users around the world. MultiPoint integrates seamlessly into users' daily workflows, allowing them to share incoming live feeds with multiple endpoints from the same LiveU Central interface they work with daily.

Reiermann adds that "being able to easily share feeds, which are then recorded and edited by end users, was crucial for this project. LiveU MultiPoint is ideal for this, with a clear, easy-to-use interface and the ability to connect with partners around the world to share content. We are very happy with all the LiveU technology and what it has allowed us to achieve. This is a long-term rights contract, so it is vital that the technology performs at a consistently high level."
