Ovide adds the ARRI Alexa Mini LF camera and Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame lenses to its rental catalog

The first rental of the Alexa Mini LF will be the filming of Bandits, a series co-produced by LaZona and Movistar+, directed by Enrique Urbizu with Unax Mendia as director of photography.

After the presentation of the new camera ARRI Alexa Mini LF last March, Ovid has several units available for rent. The first rental of these cameras will be the filming of Bandits, a series co-produced by LaZona and Movistar+. The production will be directed by Enrique Urbizu and the director of photography will be Unax Mendia, a team that has already worked successfully for Movistar+ in the two seasons of Giants, also shot with Ovide equipment.

In terms of objectives, production has been decided by the Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame. This game, recently added to Ovide's stock, turns out to be the second game available in Europe and fourth in the world.

ARRI has created a small, light and handy camera with an LF (Large Format) sensor. Its sensor makes it a complementary camera to the ARRI Alexa LF, ideal for shots where more lightness is needed or requires little space, such as sequences with stabilizers or when placing the camera in small locations such as cars, although like the original Alexa Mini, it will end up being a camera with its own entity and working as the first camera in many productions.

The LF sensor retains the “brand of the house” and offers very natural colorimetry, very little noise and an ideal workflow for working with HDR (High Dynamic Range) and WCG (Wide Color Gamut).

On the other hand, its MVF-2 viewfinder stands out with an HD OLED screen with a color reproduction identical to the viewfinder of the Alexa LF (EVF-2), in addition to the 4” folding monitor that can be used on both sides of the camera or even much further away, since it can be optionally connected via a 10m cable.

Anamorphic lenses

Cooke Anamorphic/i Full Frame anamorphic lenses cover the large sensor with a factor 1.8x instead of the usual 2.0x. They have excellent optical and mechanical performance, control of flare, distortions, glare and spherical aberrations even at their maximum aperture.

Like all current Cooke lenses, they come equipped with the /i Technology to obtain information digitally for each shot and in this way transfer it to post-production. Among the information collected, the focus (continuous), T-Stop, depth of field... all synchronized in timecode stands out.

On the other hand, Ovide has just added to its rental catalog the Sigma FP electronic director viewfinder, for full frame lenses. This viewfinder is actually a compact and lightweight mirrorless camera with a 35mm Full Frame sensor and L mount (in this case it is used with a PL and LPL mount adapter).

The viewfinder has very intuitive menus that allow you to choose the camera, sensor and recording format, including anamorphic modes (2x, 1.8x, 1.6x), and has markers for most Super35 and 35mm Full Frame cameras.

With these recent additions, Ovide establishes itself as one of the leading companies in the rental of Full Frame equipment. Its catalog already included cameras such as the ARRI Alexa LF, Sony Venice, Red Ranger, Red DSMC2 Monstro and the Canon C700 FF. On the other hand, Ovide already had large sensor lenses in its catalog such as the Zeiss Supreme Prime, Zeiss Signature Prime, Cooke S7/i and the Leica Thalia among others.
