The IOC grants broadcast rights in Japan for the Games until 2031
Japan Consortium (JC) takes over the broadcasting of the Olympic Games in Japan during the period 2026-2032.

The consortium has acquired exclusive television and digital broadcasting rights with a commitment to deliver its most comprehensive coverage ever across all media platforms, including all Olympic sports, with unprecedented digital content and coverage of the Olympic Games on free-to-air Japanese television channels.
The president of the IOC, Thomas Bach, has assured that “with the eyes of the world focused on the upcoming Olympic Games in Tokyo, we are delighted to continue and strengthen our partnership with a long-term broadcasting partner that has successfully promoted Olympic values in Japan since the Olympic Games were last held in Tokyo in 1964. Thanks to the experience of the Japanese Sports Broadcasting Consortium and its passion for Olympic values, we can guarantee exceptional television coverage of the Olympic Games in “The significant financial commitment of the Japan Consortium in the course of our partnership is great news for the entire Olympic Movement, as the IOC distributes more than 90 percent of the revenue generated through its commercial agreements to support athletes and develop sport around the world.”
The president of NHK, Ryoichi Ueda, states that "we, as JC, were able to acquire the broadcasting rights of the four Summer and Winter Olympic Games this time. NHK's goal is to offer 'the highest level of broadcasting and services' in Tokyo 2020, and considers it important to continue broadcasting the world's biggest sporting events after next year that attract a high level of public interest. "We will continue to work with the Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association (JBA) and use various channels such as high definition BS4K/BS8K and Internet so that the public can enjoy the Olympic Games anytime, anywhere.”
The president of JBA, Yoshio Okubo, further commented that "we are pleased to announce that the Japan Consortium has obtained the broadcast rights for four Olympic Games scheduled for 2026 onwards. The JC, together with the Japan Pool (JP), its predecessor, has been instrumental in bringing the splendor of the Olympic Games to the Japanese public over the years, beginning with the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games."
"I am confident that the JC, which includes public broadcaster NHK and commercial broadcasters, will be better equipped, amid the changing environment surrounding media and sport, to deliver the Olympic Games to viewers in Japan with the latest in television broadcasting technology available. With the new contract under our belt, we are ready to build our relationship with the IOC for 10 more years and beyond. The JC will continue its commitment to delivering the excitement generated by the Games Olympic Games to our viewers through broadcasts and transmissions on other platforms in association with the IOC,” he added.
This extension agreement covers the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the 2030 Olympic Winter Games and the 2032 Olympic Games. It also includes all Youth Olympic Games and the Winter Youth Olympic Games during the same period.
