The International Olympic Committee has announced, today, Friday, an agreement with Spanish Radio Television by which the Corporation acquires the broadcasting rights in Spain for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, in Sochi, and the XXXI Olympic Games, in 2016.

Radio Televisión Española has closed with the IOC the purchase of broadcasting and broadcasting rights for all broadcast platforms, including television, radio, Internet and mobile phones for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and the XXXI Summer Games in 2016.

IOC President Jacques Rogge has stated that “we are delighted to continue our relations with RTVE, who has done fantastic work for many years, promoting the magic of the Olympic Games throughout Spain and helping to promote Olympic sports.”

The vice president of the IOC, Thomas Bach, who has led the negotiations, has assured that "this agreement is an important announcement for the IOC. It is the first time that we have negotiated broadcasting rights in Spain. We are looking forward to working directly with RTVE, which will continue to be an excellent partner for the IOC and the Olympic movement in 2014 and 2016."
The president of the RTVE Corporation, Luis Fernández, has stated for his part that "RTVE believes in the values ​​of each and every sport and in the right of all citizens to enjoy the Olympic Games through their radio, television and public interactive media. We will make every effort. The Beijing Games have been a success; the 2016 Games will be as well."

Thanks to its membership in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), RTVE will also broadcast the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver and 2012 in London. The host city of the 2016 Olympic Games will be announced at the 121st Session of the IOC, which will take place in Copenhagen (Denmark) next October.
