Málaga Film Office, the municipal filming office of the Malaga City Council attached to Malaga Festival, ended 2019 with a very positive balance of work: of the 418 audiovisual projects attended, 186 were carried out, for which its single window processed 366 permissions in coordination with municipal areas (22% more than in 2018).

The most significant thing about the balance of 2019 is that spectacular figures have continued to be obtained, with the best direct economic investment since the office was born in September 2001. In 205 days of audiovisual activity, the productions have left more than 23 million euros, 79% more than the previous year. The series have accounted for 91% of this investment.

Even so, the type of production that has filmed the most in Malaga during 2019 has been, as in previous years, advertising (still photos, advertising spots and videos -both video clips and corporate-) with 68 productions, followed by short films with 36 and in third place, programs mainly for television with 27.

By countries, Spain is the one that drives the most in Malaga (with a total of 148 productions), followed by the United Kingdom with five and in third place Germany, Italy and France, all with four (some in co-production).

All of this translates into a direct economic injection, not only for Malaga capital but for the province, which benefits the tourism sector (hotels, restaurants, transport...), promotes the business fabric (direct hiring of professionals and companies in the audiovisual industry but also encouraging the creation of new companies to respond to demand), causing more qualified training, etc... In addition, it represents an engine of indirect and induced wealth, due to the dissemination of the image of Malaga in the world.

El trabajo de la Málaga Film Office

The efforts of this office, integrated into the Network of Film Cities of Andalusia Film Commission, Spain Film Commission, European Film Commission Network and the Association of Film Commissioners International, focuses on attracting projects and advising on the advantages that exist for filming in our city, offering all the possibilities that Malaga has as a setting for audiovisual productions in addition to effective management of resources to give production companies maximum facilities and thus capture their interest.

The daily work, among other tasks, is based on the specific search for public locations y permit processing necesarios para el buen desarrollo de las producciones, que solo es posible en coordinación con las áreas municipales que los autorizan, ofreciendo facilidades que en otras ciudades no existen y paralelamente por los profesionales y empresas con dilatada experiencia en el sector que los llevan satisfactoriamente a cabo.

Además, Málaga Film Office realiza una campaña de promoción in order to promote the employment of Malaga professionals and the development of the audiovisual industry. To do this, it makes an online audiovisual guide available to everyone for free, which in 2019 has been updated to make it more interactive. It has included the 'eco-friendly' category, committed to the environment, in a commitment to sustainable development practices that prevent and minimize the environmental impact derived from audiovisual activities.
