Nevion helps Synterra Media produce 4K live concerts during lockdown
Its Virtuoso solution, with TICO compression technology, is used for the first time in Russia for this broadcast included in its 'Home Season' project.
Synterra Media, the Russian audiovisual service provider, is employing the software-defined media node Virtuoso of Nevion to broadcast live events on Ultra HD 4K as part of their Home Season project.
The project is allowing the Russian cultural community to continue entertaining its audiences online despite its institutions being forced to close their doors to visitors due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The Home Season online project was inaugurated by classical pianist Denis Matsuev, whose performance of The seasons of Tchaikovsky, as well as jazz compositions, was broadcast to more than 1.5 million viewers in Russia, 1,000 times the capacity of the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow. Since then, the Moscow Philharmonic Society has performed livestreams of concerts to a virtual audience.
The project has marked the first use of Nevion Virtuoso with TICO compression technology in Russia, providing a 4:1 compression of UHD/4K signals for your transport over IP networks virtually no delay. Synterra already had Nevion Virtuoso, with JPEG 2000, which it first used for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The move to TICO simply required a software upgrade to a new media function, which could be done easily and quickly, underlining the power of the virtualized media node functionality defined by Nevion's flagship software.
The first live concert, for which Synterra Media partnered with Match TV, was broadcast in UHD/4K on the Premier platform and on the social network Odnoklassniki, as well as in HD on the official website of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. Home Season is also being broadcast on online platforms Culture.RF, VKontakte, Yandex.Air, international news channel RT, publishing house Komsomolskaya Pravda, ClassicalMusicNews.ru and Medici.tv.
Nevion Virtuoso was used in conjunction with resources provided by the Russian video agency Ruptly, which allowed the live broadcast signal to be broadcast by Russian and international media.
Nevion Capabilities
Valery Krylov, CEO of Synterra Media CJSC, comments that "in these difficult times, it was very important for our company to support this project. The capabilities of Nevion Virtuoso ensure that there is no visual loss during compression and allows us to transmit HD and Ultra HD signals over IP networks with virtually no delay. We are very happy that online live concert streaming is resonating with viewers across the country and we intend to actively expand our partnerships with theaters and concert halls in different cities."
Hans Hasselbach, Nevion's Chief Commercial Officer, adds: "We are pleased that our technology enables Synterra Media and Russia's cultural community to offer virtual concerts and continue to entertain audiences. Despite the current circumstances around the world, Nevion remains able to support our customers and partners and deliver projects on schedule, thanks in particular to our early move to virtualization."
"For example, Nevion's Virtuosos, which we have had no problem supplying when customers have needed them, can be updated, configured, managed and monitored remotely, which is ideal for customers at any time, but especially during this difficult situation. We look forward to continuing to facilitate the Home Season project over the coming weeks and months."
