The Ministry of Culture and Sports, through the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), has called for selective aid for the production of feature films on project, with a provision of 11.9 million euros.

This call, published today in the Official State Gazette, includes new features introduced on June 30 through Ministerial Order. Among these new features, the following stand out:

  • The protection of authors, through the requirement that 33% of the price of the script has been paid in order to access aid.
  • Support for co-productions with foreign companies in which Spanish participation is a minority, reserving at least 5% of the total funding for these projects.
  • The promotion of gender equality. 35% of the total amount of aid is reserved for projects directed exclusively by women and with the requirement that participation be exclusively female to be able to access an extra score, except in the writing of the script, where male participation is allowed.
  • The universal accessibility of Spanish cinema, making it mandatory for all cinematographic films to include special subtitling and audio description to access aid. This obligation is added to the already existing obligation to have at least one person with a disability equal to or greater than 33% recognized by the competent body employed in the company or incorporating into the project, except when it comes to projects of a documentary or experimental nature.
  • The elimination of restrictions on the maximum cost of the project, so that cost is no longer an access requirement for films of cultural interest, except when they are projects of an experimental nature.
  • The streamlining of the procedure, incorporating in the application an objective pre-evaluation of the project, with a minimum access score and eliminating the obligation to provide certain documents at the time of submitting the application.

To facilitate the procedure for completing the documentation and submitting the application, the ICAA has created an assistance space in the website, which includes a frequently asked questions guide, a video tutorial and contact telephone numbers.

The application submission period ends on August 10, 2020.
