Legia Warsaw analyzes its performance on a daily basis with Ross Video’s Piero

Piero, a solution developed by Ross Video, is regularly used by the Legia Warsaw football team to analyze their performance and optimize their strategies.

Legia Warsaw is Poland’s most decorated soccer club, with a record fifteen league titles, nineteen Polish Cup titles and four Polish Super Cup trophies. The club finished as the leader of Poland’s top-tier Ekstraklasa league at the end of the 2019-20 season. Kamil Potrykus, assistant coach and head of analytics, uses Piero at every team meeting. In fact, each player in the first-team squad has his own iPad to follow the sessions individually.

“We need the players to be engaged and focused, and Piero helps us do that. It’s obviously very visual and that’s been great in terms of taking away any ambiguity or misunderstandings. We need players to understand what the manager is thinking and what he wants. You call tell players what you want them to do, but when you show them it’s far more effective. I’ve regularly seen players executing tactics on the pitch that we’ve discussed on the iPad and that’s very satisfying.” he explains about using the Ross Video tool.

2021-2022 season

Legia is already planning its next season, for which it will continue to use Piero. While the team has been using it to analyze matches, Potrykus and his team are experimenting with its use in training sessions: “We’re using a drone to capture footage from training and then analyse player performance – it’s this level of rigour that will keep us at the top of the league and competing with the best clubs in Europe”. Similarly, the analytics manager plans to extend its use to the club’s second team and youth divisions.

Potrykus plans to continue using Piero both because of the good performance of the tool and the response of Ross Video’s technical support. He says: “I’ve got lots of good ideas for new features for PIERO and the team at Ross has been very receptive. They’ve been a pleasure to work with – always responsive whenever I have a question and very quick to get back to me. Last season we sometimes had three games in one week and there is a huge amount of pressure on the players and coaching staff. The great service and support I’ve had from Ross are very much appreciated and our league title should be celebrated by Team PIERO just as much as everyone here at the club.”
