Matrox Extio 3 ABC TV Japan Schematic

Various KVM IP Extenders Matrox Extio 3 have been installed throughout ABC TV (Asahi Broadcasting Corporation) to interconnect the equipment in its control rooms.

Based in Osaka, Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation (ABC) serves one of the most populated regions in Japan with a wide offering of news, sports and informative television programs. To optimize the sharing of resources and better manage broadcast equipment during possible emergencies, ABC has decided to implement KVM IP extenders Matrox Extio 3.

Before installing the Extio 3 IP KVM extenders, ABC's computer terminals were dispersed between one primary control room and three secondary control rooms, with each of the control rooms separated by different floors. ABC needed an IP KVM solution that would allow it centralize control room resources, while being easy to install and flexible enough to adapt to the changing needs of the organization. Finally, he decided to implement the solution Matrox.

Distribution of Extio 3 on ABC

All of ABC's broadcast control room equipment is located at the company's headquarters in Osaka. Two Extio 3 transmitter devices, installed in a dedicated server room on the fifth floor of the building, send signals to four different Extio 3 receiver devices in other locations. The main control room is installed on the seventh floor, where operators can seamlessly access and manage the equipment in the organization's sub-control rooms. Signals displayed on a four-monitor screen in each of the subcontrol rooms are sent over the network. 1Gbps ABC at ultra-low bit rates, optimizing KVM performance.

Masayuki Kanda, section head of ABC's engineering division, positively assesses the implementation: "Matrox Extio 3 has proven to be a robust and cost-effective KVM extension solution for ABC. We have found that the low bitrate encoding is so fast that it is difficult to tell that you are accessing the desktop remotely. In addition, the operation is incredibly intuitive and simple."
