Neumann KU 100, axis of the innovative sound production 'I feel you apart from me'

The international group of performance Lark has presented in the Fringe Festival from Dublin his new sound production I feel you apart from me, recorded with binaural head KU 100 of Neumann.

I feel you apart from me is an innovative sound production told through voice notes from WhatsApp which revolves around “the longing for what you love.” Written and performed by Emer Heatley, with musical pieces composed by Brian Fallon and directed by Julia Head, the performance part of a context familiar to the public. As explained Tilly Taylor, creative producer of the work, the piece “speaks of how we cling to each other when we are forced to be apart, of the tender power of a voice note sent across the seas and of how we find ways to communicate when we can't hold hands, but we can still whisper in each other's ears.”

MBeyond this narration based on voice notes, I feel you apart from me proposes a journey through a soundscape that is both ethereal and emotional, breaking with the expectations of the form and transporting the listener from their reality to the mind of another person. This is where the head binaural KU 100 of Neumann was crucial to creating a transformed soundscape for the listeners. Taylor says: "We used WhatsApp voice notes to make the recordings sound like a real voice message and recorded the audio in all sorts of everyday places, such as a rugby field, a makeshift dance stage, the seaside, inside a train, on busy streets, in the bathtub and even in portable toilets at a festival, to create a feeling of authenticity. When the performance transformed into a more ethereal and surreal soundscape, we used the binaural microphone in Neumann's KU 100 head shape to make recordings that placed the listener within the sound field in a completely immersive way. Thus, Emer was able to direct the sounds of her performance towards different areas around the binaural head, which in turn positioned the listener in relation to it.
