LaLiga - Movistar+ - Sentence - Piracy

A ruling from the Commercial Court number 6 of Barcelona has approved a new measure so that Movistar+ y LaLiga can request immediate blocking of domains belonging to more than 40 IPTV platforms and cardsharing pirates to all Internet access operators.

The main Internet access operators in Spain (Vodafone, Orange, MásMóvil (R, Telecable, Euskaltel), Digimóbil y Telefónica Spain) will have to block domains that are identified as linked to pirate platforms. The ruling responds to the joint lawsuit filed by TAD-Movistar+ y LaLiga for the protection of the contents of their respective channels, through which the matches of LaLiga Santander y LaLiga SmartBank.

The lawsuit requested judicial authorization to obtain a tool “agile and immediate” that allows the fight against piracy of exclusive sporting events, in line with what was approved by the European Parliament, which in May of this year urged Member States to enable legal measures in this regard.

The ruling of the Barcelona Court grants LaLiga and Movistar+ authorization to ask for blocking every week of the new domains in a specific deadline, which allows them to react at the speed required by the dynamism of the pirate content platforms themselves.
