Joueur du Grenier generates virtual scenarios in Unreal with Blackmagic solutions
the camera Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 and DeckLink 8K Pro cards make it easy to create virtual sets in Unreal Engine for broadcasts via YouTube of Attic Player, channel created in 2009 with more than one billion views.
Along with Granary Bazaar, its sister channel, Attic Player exceeds five million subscribers. This success led its creators, Molas y Rassiat, to implement a series of improvements to modernize the production of your content: "Two years ago, we began a reflection process. We thought that if we wanted to continue innovating, it would be necessary to invest in new equipment," says Molas himself. After considering several options, the team decided on products from Blackmagic Design, since these cover the entire creative process: from the image capture through post-production.
Previously, the channel had relied on a work dynamic based on a digital slr camera. Nicolas Senac, audiovisual technician, points out that the transition to audiovisual equipment Blackmagic was seamless: "Using virtual production techniques in conjunction with the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K G2 model was a huge step forward in terms of capability. We now record images with much more confidence. Additionally, the false color function of the Blackmagic Video Assist 7″ 12G HDR monitor allows us to check exposure to avoid unpleasant surprises during post-production."
Invest in techniques virtual production was instrumental in realizing Joueur du Grenier's creative ambitions. In that sense, the implementation of Unreal Engine allowed access to a wide range of possibilities. Jordane Bélot, post-production and visual effects technician, highlights the importance of DeckLink 8K in their workflow: "When filming a scene, we use a DeckLink 8K capture card to transmit the camera signal directly to Unreal Engine. We then recreate the camera movement using a tracking program and then combine the studio images with the three-dimensional elements in real time."
Likewise, the use of Unreal Engine significantly reduces the rendering time and avoids the need to set up a physical study. In the words of Bélot: “Thanks to the unlimited number of polygons and the possibility of adding authentic lighting to scenes, the time required to achieve a photorealistic rendering is much less.”
DaVinci, grading solution
Once the filming of the scenes has finished, the technological team of Attic Player is committed to creating new compositions and carrying out color grading using DaVinci Resolve Studio.
The director Karim Debbache highlights the capabilities of Blackmagic Design software: “The speed with which copies are managed in Resolve and the availability of Fusion as an integrated compositing tool allows us to save even more time.”
own Springs, a fundamental part of the creative success of Joueur du Grenier, recognizes that the growth of the channel has been closely linked to the technological improvement that he has recently undertaken: "We have received very positive feedback regarding the improvements we implemented in our studies and the level of the final result. Not only do we surpass ourselves in terms of quality, but we are also capable of innovating when we develop new formats using the most recent techniques."
