Matías González Martín, new Secretary of Telecommunications

After a decade as Director of Regulatory Affairs and Institutional Relations of Vodafone Spain, Matías González takes over the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Organisation of Audiovisual Communication Services

González Martín is a Telecommunications Engineer from the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers (ETSIT) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2021 he joined the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation as an advisor to the cabinet of the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Infrastructure. He has spent most of his professional career at Vodafone Spain, where for more than a decade he was Director of Regulatory Affairs and Institutional Relations.

Among the tasks he carried out in the private sector is the technical-economic analysis of regulation and taxation, as well as the analysis of the technological evolutions of the sector and wholesale contracts between operators for the deployment of networks and services. Much of its work has had in common the dialogue with state bodies, including the Secretary of State for Telecommunications, for the implementation of various normative and regulatory projects.

During his professional career, he has had a very active participation in the management of Public Administration tenders and numerous processes for the contracting and evaluation of suppliers. He has also been in charge of coordinating the implementation of products and projects of various kinds at Vodafone.

Among the latest projects managed by González Martín at the Secretariat of State, where he has actively collaborated in all the department's activities, are both the day-to-day regulatory and normative initiatives and those related to the deployment of the Recovery Plan programs.

González Martín takes over from Arturo Azcorra, to whom both the First Vice-President and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calviño, and the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, María González Veracruz, thanked the services provided during their stay at the Ministry, which has lasted for the last two years.
