Baviera prueba las posibilidades del DAB+ con avisos

Bavarian Media Technology (bmt), together with the Bavarian Regulatory Authority for New Media (BLM), Media School Bavaria, Bayerische Lokal-Radioprogramme (BLR) and Bayern Digital Radio (BDR), investigates the combination of exclusively musical programs with an advertisement channel on DAB+ digital radio.

In the project, which will last 14 months and is financed by the Bavarian State Chancellery, different musical genres (electro, country, jazz...) will be broadcast in parallel to an information channel via DAB+ in the 10D test set in Bavaria.

The notices are technically categorized and marked according to 10 types: traffic flash, transportation flash, news flash, notices, special event, event announcement, area weather flash, program information, financial report and sports report (function DAB Announcement).

When receiving, listeners can individually choose the types of announcements available on a radio that supports this function. In the event of an announcement, the radio turns off the music, switches to the information channel and returns to the music program. Due to the technical bundling of the project, the announcement function will only be available for the planned music programs.

The basic idea of automated radio ads is not completely new. The Drivers broadcast information (ARI) already existed in FM broadcasting since the 1970s, followed by RDS traffic announcements. With DAB technology, the warning function was expanded again. For example, the new public notification service on DAB (Emergency Warning Service EWS) is also based on this function. In the context of increasingly individualized listening behavior, the potential of DAB advertisements must now be investigated in a broader context.

In addition to the implementation of the basic idea, the project also addresses other issues, such as producción de programas musicales basada en la nube, the síntesis de voz de contenidos hablados, the virtualización del multiplexor DAB and the contribución basada en IP al transmisor DAB.
