The Cabildo of Gran Canaria puts out to tender a virtual extended reality (XR) study
Through the Gran Canaria Economic Promotion Society (SPEGC), the Cabildo of Gran Canaria is putting out to tender the implementation of equipment for a virtual extended reality (XR) study for an amount of 5,899,341 euros.
The facilities will be used for film productions and will be located on set number 1 of the Gran Canaria Platós complex. It is a system of giant screens around a stage in which the actors and real objects will be located.
The screens reproduce immersive virtual backgrounds (created by computer) with a lot of camera depth that facilitate the total immersion of the cast in the virtual settings, which allows obtaining results with 3D perspective and great realism. This bet will improve the competitiveness of the Island to host productions that require digital and virtual technologies.
This tender is co-financed by the European Union with funds from the European Recovery Instrument, called Next Generation EU, within the framework of the 2022 call for the aid program in the field of the information society for the creation of a digital ecosystem in the audiovisual sector, carried out by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and convened by Red.es.
This action is framed in the initiative Digital Creates Gran Canaria, promoted by the Cabildo through the SPEGC, which has the objective of supporting digital creative companies on the island of Gran Canaria, especially the sectors of animation, digital production, video games and others that use digital processes. In recent years, several companies in these areas have launched their activity on the island and are in the growth phase.
