RNE prepares a new sound fiction for the Almagro Festival

'Between fools the game is', a classic by Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla, jumps from the stage to the airwaves in a sound fiction that National Radio of Spain will be produced on the occasion of the 46th edition of the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival.

The sound version stars Pedro Casablanc, Sara Illán, Pablo Béjar, Marta Larralde and Carlos Manrique, along with the team of RNE interpreters.

Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla published this comedy in 1645 and it was performed that same year in the Alcázar of Madrid before King Felipe IV. This time, RNE's Sound Fiction team, with adaptation by Alfonso Latorre, production and sound design by Mayca Aguilera and direction by Benigno Moreno, will take the work to a new dimension.

The game is between fools It will premiere on July 4 and 5 at the Corral de Comedias de Almagro. The show on the 5th can be followed live on Radio Nacional and on video on RTVE Play from 10:45 p.m.

The story takes place in Madrid in 1638. It is the final stretch of the Spanish Golden Age. Following the norms of the time, a young woman, Isabel, from a good family, but without money, has been promised by her father, Don Antonio de Peralta, to a gentleman from Toledo, Don Lucas del Cigarral.

Isabel, however, is secretly in love with another man, a young knight who, weeks ago, saved her life when a bull was about to gore her. She couldn't talk to him and she doesn't know his name or where he lives, but since then she hasn't stopped thinking about her savior.

Don Lucas, oblivious to all this, sends an emissary to the Peralta house to pick up Isabel and thus meet her. The girl will be greatly surprised when she discovers that said emissary, Don Pedro, cousin of Don Lucas, is the young man she is in love with.

But the pieces of the game are not yet all on the table, the third man in contention is missing: Don Luis de Contreras, an annoying suitor who hangs around Isabel at all hours and for whom the young woman does not feel any appreciation. Evidently, the plot is ready and will break out on the same night that all the characters meet at a sale, on the way to Toledo, where the wedding will take place.
