France Televisions - TVU Networks - Hyper-mobile Hipomobile Paris 2024

Various solutions TVU Networks have promoted a “hypermobile” broadcast with which France Televisions The countdown to the Olympic Games has begun. OO. of Paris 2024.

The new workflow France Televisions, defined by TVU as a “hypermobile” broadcast, is made up of the solutions in the TVU cloud for production, remote collaboration, IFB management, intercom and mix-minus; he TVU RPS One for synchronized capture of live multi-camera content, and two units Starlink Maritime for data transmission and aggregation.

This workflow, which will presumably be used for other broadcasts within the framework of the JJ. OO. Paris 2024, was used for a magazine with interviews focused precisely on the countdown to the sporting event. In total, there were almost four hours of live content: three continuous hours on the “franceinfo” news channel and half an hour on the regional news channel “Paris Idf”, as well as a live broadcast on Twitch.

The event, with multiple locations and cameras, took place in Paris aboard a moving ship with limited space. Five cameras were used: four located on the boats and one mounted on a motorcycle that followed the action along the Seine River. In addition, two other live broadcasts were carried out in different locations in Paris and Ukraine. The seven live streams, powered by backpacks TVU RPS One y TVU One, were synchronized seamlessly on TVU Producer's cloud production platform, with “zero execution delay.”

Satellite support and the power of the cloud

France Télévisions also used two systems Starlink Maritime, as well as the 5G network itself, to help counteract cellular bandwidth challenges on moving ships. The backpack transmitter TVU RPS One with 5G modems was used to transmit synchronized signals from multiple cameras to TVU's remote cloud production platform, adding 5G and Starlink connectivity. A motorcycle on the ground was also equipped with a TVU One 5G transmitter to capture additional footage.

On the other hand, the cloud platform TV Producer served as the central axis of the production, facilitating fluid collaboration between team members, with much of the production carried out remotely from a France TV studio. Finally, the camera signals were transmitted as redundancy to both the cloud platform TV Producer as well as the study, providing a automatic backup in case of unforeseen circumstances and guaranteeing uninterrupted broadcast.

Skander Ben Attia, engineering director at France Télévisions, welcomes this "more flexible" approach to live reporting: "TVU provided us with a smaller, less hardware-dependent and more versatile technological solution that laid the foundation for hypermobile broadcasting. We no longer need to rely heavily on the extensive and complex traditional infrastructure for news capture, while being much faster to go live and more environmentally friendly."

On the other hand, Romuald Rat, director of TechLab at France Télévisions, adds: "We are very satisfied with the results of our hypermobile initiative with TVU. We have been able to produce high-quality live multi-camera events or breaking news from anywhere despite difficult circumstances: hardware failures, an entire system down, war zones or deserted areas. With only batteries and cameras in hand, and powered by the latest generation of 5G with Starlink and TVU linked cellular transmission equipment, the “Our team of reporters has the tools they need to quickly run a live newscast anywhere in the world and cover stories from any angle: traditional and new.”
