France Télévisions Overseas chooses Globecast and Net Insight for cloud media transport
France Televisions has turned to the technological association of Globecast next to Net Insight to replace its legacy media contribution and distribution solution for overseas territories.
The French broadcaster wanted to replace and improve flexibility and reliability of its technology to manage contributions between local studios in the territories, as well as with eight press agencies. This is a permanent and occasional feed from a central studio in France to territories such as French Guiana; French Polynesia; Guadalupe/Saint Martin; Martinique; Mayotte; New Caledonia; Meeting; Saint Pierre and Miquelon; Wallis and Futuna.
Yann Madeleine, executive vice president of sales at Globecast in France, said: "The project, which is already underway, had several objectives. The solution had to be as cost-effective as possible, so it was a priority to leverage a combination of the public Internet and the cloud, while guaranteeing a superior quality of service. Our experience in creating large-scale media networks, with the Nimbra Edge technology “Net Insight, key to this solution, was essential for this project.”
It was also essential to have a easy-to-use and flexible front-end that offered a clear view of what operators are doing and when. Net Insight's highly reliable, elastic Nimbra Edge platform addresses this requirement by delivering high-quality media uninterrupted over IP networks and the cloud. The cloud media delivery platform allows customers to easily connect, manage and consume content anywhere.
Combined with Globecast's cloud infrastructure, it offers the ability to provide the contribution service without the user having to worry about bandwidth limitations.
These limitations are resolved in the initial provisioning phase, providing bandwidth flexibility and one secure video streaming. Additionally, the system provides the flexibility to allow additional sources (e.g., for a specific event) to be inserted into the transportation solution as and when needed, a capability that was previously impossible.
Christer Fritzson, CEO of Net Insight, notes that "the media industry is rapidly entering the new era of cloud and IP workflows. Media companies such as France Télévisions are harnessing the innovation and unique advantages of cloud and IP technologies, including unprecedented scalability and the flexibility to manage live broadcasts reliably and cost-effectively."
“Net Insight's Nimbra Edge is the most open and agile cloud delivery solution, and we are pleased that, together with Globecast, we are giving the media industry the opportunity to innovate into the future,” he added.
Jacques Donat-Bouillud, Director of Broadcast and Distribution Network Development at France Télévisions, underlines that "France Télévisions was looking for a reliable, resilient and innovative solution to guarantee the exchange of media, video and audio between our different local stations abroad and in France. The solution proposed by Globecast and its partners meets the criteria, as it allows us to improve the services provided, while maintaining the level of quality of service required for France Télévisions' public service missions. Furthermore, this solution is more economical than the above, while representing a technological leap, Globecast also has the advantage of having competent and reliable local partners in all overseas territories. It is very important that France Télévisions can benefit from local resources and skills, particularly in the event of major climatic events, which are unfortunately still possible in overseas territories.
According to Madeleine, "It was essential that we create a premium media transport solution that is extremely reliable and also very cost-effective. Our cloud expertise and that of Net Insight is crucial to the success of this project. In addition, France Télévisions now benefits from a one-stop shop when it comes to contracts and any questions or issues."
