Clamor for a new Digital Radio Technical Plan at the DAB+ Digital Radio conference of RTVE and WorldDAB
RTVE y WorldDAB They promote a conference around digital radio and DAB+ in which the speakers have claimed the need to promote a new Digital Radio Technical Plan to accelerate the deployment of the technology.
During the celebration of the “DAB+ Digital Radio” conference organized by RTVE y WorldDAB, national and international experts have agreed that Spain urgently needs a new Digital Radio Technical Plan that takes into account the reality of Spanish legal radio, which guarantees its stability, are security legal and allow your evolution a future, so that the sector can begin the deployment of DAB+ in the shortest possible time, as is happening in the rest of Europe.
The event, held in Prado del Rey, has been inaugurated by Cascajosa Conception, interim president of RTVE, who has indicated that Spain is at a key moment to give a boost to this format. “Radio is not just a means of communication, it is a social reality, a service in which we fit in as a public service to guarantee the right to information,” he indicated. Next, Jacqueline Bierhorst, president of WorldDAB, addressed the current European situation and future plans, radio services and audience data and the effect of digitalization on the radio business. In his opinion, “it is very important to all work together, commercial radio and public radio” and he has highlighted the need for a technical plan for the launch of DAB+ in Spain, preferably within a year.
Throughout the day, digital radio in Spain has been approached from different perspectives. In particular, the DAB+ universe has been analyzed by Ramon Salat, Cellnex Telecom–CLNX SP; Werner the Creator Broadcast Partners–CLNX NL; Angel Garcia Castillejo, director of Audiovisual Policies, Public and International Service of RTVE, and Javier Sánchez Pérez, head of Strategy at the RTVE Innovation Center, who have called for effective changes to be made to respond to this “debt to citizens,” in the words of Castillejo.
The professionals who took part in this event have also highlighted that FM does not allow an increase in radio offerings. It is neither an efficient nor sustainable platform; that the current consumption of linear internet radio is minority and it is not for all citizens; the need for do not depend on third-party platforms so that the contents do not “end up diluted” between linear and non-linear contents of all kinds”; importance of vehicles to ensure the future of the radio sector; how the arrival of DAB+ has favored the consumption radio, and how currently coexistence of FM and DAB+ is the way forward in the face of the European Union's decision not to harmonize the deployment of this latest digital radio technology.
