The production of Eurovision 2024: 26 cameras, 400 intercom, LiveEdit…
The Malmö Arena (Sweden) hosted a new edition of Eurovision with a spectacular technical display and important new features that come to change the way in which this type of television events are produced.
The UER defines the effort made in terms of production as a “symphony of technology and talent” that has “converged” to “give life to the Eurovision experience. In this way, and in collaboration with SVT, has signed a creation marked by the versatility that its 26 cameras, accompanied by all kinds of cranes and accessories to adapt them to the complex realizations of each performance.
During the coordination of the technical team, more than 400 flasks y 200 intercom panels managed more than 60 canales, both analog and digital. The figures multiply in the field of lighting, with 204 tons of equipment supported by 3.5 kilometers of trusses. Among these teams, more than 2,000 devices (with LED or laser sources) that were programmed for four weeks to be able to live up to the event. This important visual component was complemented with 1000 square meters of LED screens of different types, which ranged from the stage floor to the iconic cubes of this edition.
With respect to sound, the backbone of Eurovision, the organization of the contest deployed 68 speakers, 56 microphones and 9 sound tables that guaranteed the delivery of audio to both artists and the public. In total, they managed three different sound mixes: ear monitors for artists, public address systems for the public on site and broadcast mix for viewers around the world.
A final key component in terms of realization was the use of LiveEdit, system used in shows such as the SuperBowl or the editions Eurovision Junior designed to achieve better coordination of production teams and cameras. This tool, which comes to replace CuePilot, unifies different timelines to be able to program each plane change in a way automated and introduce effects and transitions. Through this system, each camera operator integrate your own tablet or mobile with the necessary instructions and one countdown of your plan.
