Víctor García León reflects aspirations and miseries in his new film 'High capacities'
Produced by Buenapinta Media, Sayaka, Colosé and Think Studio in co-production with Cimarrón, has started filming 'Altascapabilities', directed by Víctor García León.
Written by the director himself together with Borja Cobeaga, High capacities is a film that talks about aspirations and insecurities as mothers and fathers starring Marián Álvarez and Israel Elejalde.
García León, renowned filmmaker and also multi-award-winning for his work on television (Come on Juan, come on Juan y Vote Juan), dazzled with his debut feature, the black comedy More shame than glory, for which he received his first Goya nomination. His second feature film get away from me, participated in the San Sebastián Festival, winning the Silver Shell for its protagonist, Juan Diego, as well as the Goya for best actor. Then will come the intelligent and corrosive Selfie (Special mention from the jury and Critics' Award at the Malaga Festival) and The Europeans, nominated for three Goya awards.
The filmmaker Borja Cobeaga, who signs the script together with García León himself, has a long career as a screenwriter (participating in titles such as Eight Basque surnames y Super López) and accumulates numerous recognitions, including the Oscar nomination for the short film we were few and four nominations for the Goya awards. Additionally, he is the creator of the television series I don't like driving (2022), which won three Feroz awards, including best comedy series, and will soon release the film The Aitas, of which he is director.
Víctor García León comments that “High Capacities It is a story that speaks of our aspirations and miseries. The protagonists are a couple of parents who are afraid for their children or, rather, afraid that they will not become what they should, afraid of what they are, afraid of what they can become... And, eventually, motherhood and fatherhood force you to face that, sometimes, our fears are worth more than our principles.
In the technical section, García León will have a long-standing team led mostly by women, Eva Diaz Iglesias will be in charge of photography direction; Begoña Muñoz in production management; Carmen Albacete in production design; Buster Franco in assembly, Tamara Arevalo will be responsible for the direct sound, and Natacha Fernández Gallardo She will be the costume designer. Luciana Diaz will be the head of makeup alongside Claudine Saint Hubert in hairdressing. The original music will be provided by the Uruguayan composer Camila Rodriguez.
The film, which has been one of the projects selected in the Venice Gap- Financing Market 2024 at the Venice Festival, is a Spanish-Uruguayan co-production and will be shot in different locations in Madrid.
At the head of production is Marisa Fernández Armenteros for Buenapinta Media, Nahikari Ipiña for Sayaka Productions, Sandra Hermida for Colosé Producciones, and Eneko Lizarraga for Think Studio in co-production with Santiago Lopez for Cimarrón (a company of The Mediapro Studio) with the participation of RTVE, Movistar Plus+, Orange and financing from the ICAA, the Community of Madrid and the Madrid City Council. The film will be distributed in Spain by Bteam Pictures and international sales will be in charge The Film Factory.
Its producers highlight that “‘High capacities It is the opportunity to have Víctor García León and Borja Cobeaga, two filmmakers who enjoy writing and reflecting on contradictions, both their own and those of others, something that we also find very interesting. In this case, with the education of daughters and sons as a metaphor for aspirations, for the social springboard and for those good intentions that, sometimes, remain just that: good intentions. “We felt it was the right time to address this issue in our cinema through this comedy-drama.”
