Day Drinker

Tenerife's audiovisual industry confirms its good state of form in 2025, hosting 425 days of filming to date, divided between nine fiction series and five feature films.

Although for now the figure is still below the 896 days registered throughout 2024 and 991 of 2023, the average duration of projects is increasing, indicating a consolidation of more ambitious and prolonged productions. These initiatives translate into an economic impact of 49.5 million euros, according to data from the Tenerife Film Commission.

One of the most notable shoots of the first half of 2025 in Tenerife has been that of Day drinker, a fiction feature film for Lionsgate and directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, 500 days together, snow white) that reunites Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz for fourth time on screen to be protagonists of a story of intrigue, luxury and unexpected connections on the high seas. The film was filmed this April in different locations on the island.

They have also landed in Tenerife Alibis, a comedy of entanglements and false identities directed by Martin Crow and co-produced by Secuoya Studios and Buendía Estudios Canarias, with the service to the production of Riverflow Pictures, y Pioneers, a co-production between Spain (Cine365 Films, Nadie es Perfecto) and Portugal that was filmed between Madrid, Guadalajara and Tenerife. It is a tribute to the first women that paved the way for the current teams of women soccer players that compete at a professional level.

Since mid-April, filming has begun The End of It in different locations of the island. It is a science fiction feature film co-produced by The Mediapro Studio US & Canada y BBC Films, with a stellar cast led by BAFTA winner Rebecca Hall and Golden Globe winner Gael García Bernal, among others. Spanish director María Martínez Bayona makes her directorial debut and signs the script for the film.

Tenerife, filming scene for national and international series

Among the filming of series is Jakarta, a Movistar Plus original starring Javier Cámara that was filmed in different locations in the north of the island, such as Puerto de la Cruz. The production, developed by 100 Reply (The Mediapro Studio) and Buendía Estudios Canarias It finished filming at the end of March in Tenerife. The story revolves around Joserra, a physical education teacher and former Olympic badminton player, who meets a teenager with an extraordinary talent that will end up changing his life.

The first quarter also brought the filming of other international projects such as Alea Aquarius, a television series aimed at youth audiences, from the German production company Red Balloon, and will continue filming in Tenerife from January to the end of June in different locations on the island. For his part, 'These Sacred Vows, Irish production of Treasure Entertainment, has opted for sustainable filming. The six-episode series takes place the morning after an Irish wedding held in a villa, when the priest's body appears floating in the pool. It will be filming until early July.

The technical and artistic team of the British series Frauds, of Monumental Films for the ITV network, also landed at the beginning of the year in different locations on the island to film the sixth season of the series for three months alongside renowned actresses Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker as protagonists. In parallel, the Spanish thriller The girl which is part of Carmen Mola's literary saga, has returned to the screen with a free adaptation directed by Paco Cabezas and co-produced by de Buendía Estudios Canarias y Diagonal (Banijay Iberia) with the participation of Atresmedia. The third installment has chosen exteriors and interiors in Tenerife before continuing in Madrid.

In terms of advertising filming, the volume of advertising spots and shootings is maintained, such as the case of the spot for the sports brand Hoka, which included the service for the production of Twentyfourseven.
