SES Astra sells its broadcast, content management and IP delivery business to MBS
The German communications provider MBS has acquired a selection of satellite operator service operations SES Astra in Germany and the UK, a business spanning broadcast solutions, content management, IP distribution, VOD and OTT delivery.
The acquisition, effective July 1, 2025, marks a significant milestone for MBS as it expands beyond its core infrastructure and satellite services to encompass the entire value chain of media services. With the incorporation of 60 employees and offices at the existing SES location in Unterföhring, near Munich, this set of services will be offered through a company called Full Season, which aims to offer scalable and secure content solutions to broadcasters and brands across Europe.
Christian Fleischhauer, CEO of MBS, explained that with this move the company seeks to become “the key player and a true service partner for playout, VOD and content management in the European market in the coming years.” Your partner in the management of the company, Qi Zhang-Holste, adds: “Our customers increasingly demand complete support and maximum reliability; this move allows us to meet and exceed those expectations.”
For SES, the operation represents a strategic readjustment, as the company is focusing its attention on core satellite broadcast services and related offerings such as uplink, multiplexing, encryption and scrambling. With the sale of broadcast services and selected content, SES intends to rationalize its operations and focus on satellite infrastructure and solutions.
