Shotoku - Swoop 220 - IBC 2025

Shotoku has revealed during IBC 2025 the new Swoop range, a robotic crane system that seeks to “replace” those systems operated manually by one or even two operators.

Defined by James Eddershaw, CEO, as a “breakthrough in studio robotics”, the new Shotoku range arrives to combine creativity, control and security “in a system of elegant design.” “The crane allows broadcasters to reach new heights and, dare I say, new lows, by expanding creative possibilities and improving operational flexibility,” he says. Eddershaw about this new family of products, which is launched in two sizes: Swoop 140 (140 cm) y Swoop 220 (220 cm).

Both versions, which seek to provide the filmmakers with a intelligent system to power create and repeat with precision panoramic shots, arrives with two base options to suit different production needs and budgets. While the robotic base SmartPed (Swoop SP) provides freedom of movement across the studio floor with remotely controlled X/Y positioning, the base manual offers a cost-effective solution for situations where only manual movement of the base between shots or programs is required.

Swoop integrates with the TR-XT control system by Shotoku, which provides complete control of the crane within the studio. The screen StudioView of TR-XT shows the location of Swoop on relationship with other cameras, while the system SoftRail allows you to control Swoop SP along strictly defined SoftRail trajectories, ensuring precise, safe and consistent movement across the ground.

Additionally, Swoop uses a specially configured version of the TG-47 pan/tilt robotic head by Shotoku. Mounted on the end of Swoop's arm, the TG-47 allows operators to frame “the perfect shot,” while the crane provides camera angles and shot transitions “out of reach of even the most advanced robotic pedestals.”

Taking into account security on set, the systems Swoop have been designed with multiple detectors smart proximity along the arm and above and below the payload, creating a dynamic protective “bubble” that detects obstacles, stops all movement and prevents collisions.

Beyond the Swoop system, Shotoku has exhibited the latest improvements in its IBC 2025 stand. SoftRail, now compatible with the SmartPed X/Y pedestal; the version 3 of the control system TR-XT, or the system Orchestra CMS.
