Generative extension comes to Adobe Premiere Pro at NAB 2025

Artificial intelligence continues to take giant steps in the ecosystem of Adobe with the launch of new tools for Premiere Pro at NAB 2025, including a generative extension solution compatible with 4K workflows.

The “Generative Extension” solution for Premiere Pro uses AI with the aim of generate and expand “instantly” the length of video and audio clips. Based on the “commercial safe” Firefly video model, this 4K workflow-compatible tool allows you to fill video or audio gaps in your footage, smooth transitions and hold the shots longer. To do this, Adobe has integrated a “click and drag” to add these “photorealistic” video and audio extensions. The solution, whose beta phase began in October 2024, also allows you to transform the videos in a vertical format, eliminating the need to manually reframe shots.

It is not the only AI innovation that Adobe has launched during the Las Vegas fair. The function Media Intelligence Premiere Pro aims to “radically change” the way editors interact with the footage in their projects. Instead of the usual manual searches, Media Intelligence automatically recognizes the content of the clips, including objects, locations, camera angles or metadata such as shooting date or camera type, so that editors can find “what they need when they need it.”

Both functions are added to the latest features of Premiere Pro, among which stand out a AI-based subtitle translation tool that allows a translation to be carried out into 27 languages in “a matter of seconds”, and a completely new color management system which allows you to automatically transform recording footage from almost all cameras into HDR and SDR.

Adobe has also confirmed at NAB 2025 new improvements for After Effects y Frame.io. While the first tool has introduced a High performance preview playback, an expanded range of 3D tools and HDR monitoring, Frame.io V4's new expanded storage eliminates the need to fragment workflows by storing files across multiple cloud platforms. This latter tool has also been recently updated with expanded text document review tools; a transcript generation function (beta); watermarks, and access groups for enterprise customers, again in beta.
