Ateme brings Telefónica VOD to the cloud with a scalable, intelligent and 4K platform on Google Cloud
Atem is associated with Telefónica to implement a cloud-native media processing platform based on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in next-generation video on demand (VOD) services.
This solution will allow the distribution of scalable, high-quality content across all of the operator's international operations. By adopting a cloud-native architecture, Telefónica can now distribute its extensive VOD catalogue, including 4K content, to a wide range of devices, from mobile screens to connected televisions, with greater agility and efficiency.
The Ateme platform, integrated with Google Cloud AI infrastructure and services, is the core of this transformation. This technological proposal will allow Telefónica dynamically scale resources based on demand. This ensures consistent performance during high traffic periods, while optimizing costs during off-peak periods, taking advantage of the global reach and elasticity of the cloud.
On the other hand, it will provide great flexibility for multiple members since a centralized architecture will support Telefónica's regional subsidiaries, simplifying launches, updates and service consistency across all markets.
The implementation will incorporate advanced capabilities such as audience-aware coding, automated metadata tagging, and predictive demand analytics, driving greater personalization and operational efficiency. In addition, the platform will guarantee a 4K video delivery consisting of devices mobiles, of desk y connected televisions, regardless of bandwidth conditions, improving the quality of experience and reducing viewer loss.
Christophe Stigas, Vice President of Ateme for Southern Europe and the Middle East and Africa, points out that "this implementation is a clear example of how we collaborate closely with operators to respond to the changing needs of video distribution. By integrating our media processing platform into Google Cloud as part of Telefónica's VOD architecture, we have enabled dynamic resource scaling, 4K video distribution and automated workflows, all while simplifying operations in multiple markets."
Javier Lucendo de Gregorio, Director of Video Processing and Delivery at Telefónica, highlights that "for us, this project goes beyond technology: it is about improving the service we offer to our audience. The new platform provides us with the necessary agility to launch services more quickly, guarantee constant quality in all regions and adapt more quickly to changes in viewer behavior."
