The first Quirino Lab starts, a seminar focused on animation that combines professional, technological and creative development
A selection of seventeen animation executive production professionals from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain and Mexico participate in the inaugural edition of Quirino Lab, an advanced training program that takes place from November 19 to 22 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
The seminar combines intensive professional development with a strategic vision of the sector with the double objective of promoting individual careers and promoting a qualitative leap in animated production in the region. Focused on innovation, the program is based on five thematic focuses which will be developed during the first three days of the laboratory under the mentorship of experts with recognized experience in the international animation industry, specialists in the different thematic areas of the sector and professionals from other sectors with relevant expertise for executive production.
In “New market trends and targets” The macro trends of the global audiovisual market will be analyzed, the redefinition of the different target audiences, and the exploration of business models and innovative distribution strategies, among other topics. Sofia Hoffmann (ROSAPARKS and NGO MEP Women in Advertising Barcelona) and Gabriela Gardini (Morning Coffee) are the experts in charge of this module.
In the focus “Advanced organizational methodologies and team management”, Paloma Aragon (Ackermann Labs) will talk about the implementation of agile, collaborative and interdisciplinary organizational structures, the adoption of new tools for project management, and the promotion of creativity and innovation in the work environment.
The lawyer specialized in Audiovisual Law, Francisco Menéndez (Welaw Consulting), is in charge of the module “Financial Development and Investment”, in which public-private investment and financing will be analyzed, as well as other alternative ways to finance animated IPs. Topics such as the development of business plans and pitch decks, co-production strategies, hybrid monetization models and blockchain will also be addressed.
In “Development of IPs and links with other sectors”, Zofia Ścisłowska, in charge of children's and animation projects at the Polish production company Laniakea Pictures, will focus on expansion strategies to other sectors of the industry - such as video games -, the construction of storyworlds, and the generation of audiences and fanbases.
Lastly, in “AI, emerging technologies and trends” The exploration of artificial intelligence applications in pre-production, production and post-production, its use for task automation, data analysis and the generation of insights, and the identification of audiences, among other topics, will be analyzed. Ojeda albums (Wells Agency), Alfonso Fulgencio (Next Lab) y José Luis Farias (Quirino Awards) are the professionals in charge of this module.
In addition to these focuses, Quirino Lab includes in the program a game case study Blasphemous (The Game Kitchen), one of the most recognized Spanish titles with the greatest international projection, and a special activity of the Futures Laboratory, an initiative developed by Quirino in collaboration with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation that seeks to collectively build a new pact for the future of Ibero-American animation. The session is coordinated by Federico Buyolo, cultural director of the Ortega-Marañón Foundation.
The group of participants is made up of experienced professionals that have produced at least one series, one animated feature film, or three animated short films and who are committed to innovation and the development of the industry in their countries. In the first cohort of Quirino Lab, producers of 3Doubles Producciones, Crazy Meerkat, La Mola, Sultana Films, Tinglado Film, Red Animation and Tomavision Studio (Spain); Mono Animation, Oz Produtora, Studio Z Design e Animação y Subversiva Estudio (Brazil); IntiFX y Matte CG (Ecuador); Mr. Machin and ¡Viva Calavera! (Mexico); and Doinmedia (Colombia).
Quirino Lab It is an initiative of Quirino, together with the Cabildo of Tenerife through Turismo de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Commission. A large part of its activities are taking place in the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes library – TEA, a collaborator in this first edition. Furthermore, during Quirino Lab, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the work of Tenerife companies in a breakfast networking in which the tax incentives offered by the island will also be presented.
