Madrid Film Office publishes the new 'Guide to good practices in filming' which aims to promote the best possible coexistence between filming and the rest of the existing activities in the city. In 2024 alone, Madrid City Council processed more than 11,419 requests for filming on public roads.

On Tuesday, December 16, the audiovisual office of the City Council organized its VI Afterwork 'We cut to...', an event aimed at promoting networking and synergies within the Madrid audiovisual sector, as well as contact with institutional representatives and managers of companies and services linked to the audiovisual sector and located in the city. In addition, it seeks to promote public-private collaboration, highlight the measures and activities to support audiovisuals developed by the City Council and publicize spaces that can be used as filming sets.

The meeting, held at the Teatro Magno, was attended by more than 200 industry professionals, institutional representatives and managers of companies that offer audiovisual services. Participating in the presentation of the event Hector Coronel, Director of Tourism of the Madrid City Council, and Raul Torquemada, director of Madrid Film Office. During it, the new 'Guide to good practices in filming' prepared by the Madrid Film Office was presented within the framework of its actions aimed at improving the conditions of filming and its coexistence with the rest of the interests of the city's citizens.

Coronel highlighted the importance of the audiovisual industry in the strategic lines of Tourism. "Madrid has experienced a significant boom in filming in recent years, with a significant economic impact and for the international projection of the city, becoming one of the most sought-after urban destinations in terms of tourism and one of the main production centers in Europe. But this growth also imposes challenges," he noted. “Each filming generates a great impact on the city and the image of the sector, as indicated in the guide, and precisely for this reason we consider that generating trust and paying attention to these good practices is essential to ensure a sustainable future for the filming sector in Madrid.”

Guide to good practices in filming

During the Afterowrk, Madrid Film Office presented the new Guide to good practices in filming which aims to promote the best possible coexistence between filming and the rest of the existing activities in the city. In 2024 alone, the Madrid City Council processed more than 11,419 filming requests on public roads, being the scene of 41 films, 53 series and more than 430 medium and large-scale advertisements, among many other audiovisual projects. With an approach focused on the principle of minimal impact, the guide includes recommendations regarding the use and care of public space, communication and treatment of neighbors, and the management of the city's green and most sensitive spaces.

The publication is aimed at all film crew professionals who participate in an audiovisual production and aims to support the activity of the professionals in their location department. The Guide to good practices in filming has had the collaboration of SUBJECTS, the association of localizers of Madrid, and the General Subdirectorate of Legal Regime and Authorizations of the Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility Area of ​​the Madrid City Council, in charge of processing permits for filming on public roads.

The guide joins other actions aimed at promoting greater distribution of filming throughout the 21 districts of the city and improving filming conditions there. This resource will be distributed among all work crews and filming permit applicants in the city.
