Mexico leads the production of content for streaming platforms in Latin America
According to a study by the entertainment platform Spoiler, which collected data from 2020 to 2025, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are leading the way in producing content for streaming platforms.
After the pandemic, the global entertainment map was reconfigured, and Latin American countries emerged with a new identity: not only as a consumer market, but as powerhouses producing original content. According to the Spoiler study, the productive increase has a main driver: Netflix. The platform was a pioneer with its regional commitment in 2015, launching the successful series Ravens Club. Since then, the catalog has been filled with titles produced in the region.
As part of the report, the explosive growth of original Latin productions was analyzed, as well as the platforms that have driven this trend. A notable increase in annual releases was recorded: from only 29 titles in 2020, the figure rose to 70 in 2021, and reached its all-time high in 2022 with 131 productions. Despite slight variations in the following years (110 in 2023, 94 in 2024 and 91 projected for 2025), Mexico maintained a leadership position, consistently being the country with the highest number of original productions throughout the period studied.
When breaking down production data by country, the concentration of production is notable. Mexico consolidated itself as the leader in the Latin market, accumulating a total of 180 original titles throughout the analyzed period. The country made a significant difference with its closest followers: Argentina, with 123 productions, Brazil, which registered 106, and Colombia, with 57. Behind these four main markets, the rest of the region showed limited production, with nations such as Chile (13), Peru, Uruguay y Guatemala registering a symbolic number of titles, which underlines the high concentration of the industry in the main markets.
This Mexican dominance is reinforced by the role of local players. A notable case is Vix, the Mexican platform with a notable production volume, which generates between 50 and 70 original titles per year with main distribution in Latin America. Its rapid growth has cemented Mexico not only as a key producer, but as the main center of Spanish-language content creation within the streaming ecosystem.
Beyond production figures, Mexico has demonstrated a industrial maturity and a deep reserve of talent that allows it not only to respond to the demand of the large platforms, but also to set the narrative and aesthetic standard in the region.
