RTVE in Prado del Rey

The National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) highlights in its report 'Media literacy 2023-2025, which will be sent to the European Commission, which RTVE stands as the audiovisual provider in Spain that contributes the most to the fulfillment of media literacy objectives, with 67 measures identified.

The report states that RTVE concentrates approximately one in three measurements reported in the group of audiovisual providers analyzed, a leadership that demonstrates its supporting role as a public service in the promotion of media competencies. The comparison is clear: the next operator by number of initiatives is Mediaset Spain, with 23 measures, while other prominent providers are already at lower levels. This quantitative leadership also translates into a transversal presence of media literacy on RTVE platforms and brands: television, radio, digital and information services.

Among the most relevant initiatives collected by the CNMC, RTVE stands out especially for its contribution to verification and prevention of hoaxes, with the deployment of VerifyRTVE in different territories and formats. The report reflects interventions and content aimed at denying false information, explaining verification processes and offering practical tools to the audience to identify misleading or fraudulent content, with special attention to cyber scams.

The document also recognizes RTVE's efforts to promote media literacy through training, both internally and externally, through courses and workshops aimed at professionals, students and diverse groups, as well as initiatives in collaboration with academic entities. The CNMC also reflects the role of RTVE in the creation of content and projects aimed at promoting critical thinking in digital environments, especially among young people, children and families.

The report Media literacy 2023-2025, prepared by the CNMC in accordance with the General Law of Audiovisual Communication and the guidelines of the European Commission, is integrated into the European framework for monitoring national measures in media literacy. Its referral to Brussels will contribute to the evaluation of public policies and the role of audiovisual ecosystem agents in the promotion of media skills in the Member States.
