Presentation Study of the Audiovisual Sector of Madrid 2026 (Madrid Audiovisual Cluster)

A study of Madrid Audiovisual Cluster places the sector above 108,400 jobs and foresees new growth driven by OTT platforms, innovation and internationalization.

In 2025, the audiovisual industry of the Community of Madrid generated a economic impact of 7,510 million euros gross value added (GVA), equivalent to 2.2% of regional GDP, consolidating the region as the main audiovisual hub in Spain. This is reflected in the Madrid 2026 Audiovisual Sector Study, prepared by International Financial Analysts (Afi) for the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster within the framework of the Madrid Audiovisual Observatory.

The report, presented with the collaboration of the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid, highlights the strategic weight of an industry that already exceeds the 3,600 companies and generates more than 108,400 jobs full-time equivalents, placing it among the cultural sectors with the greatest capacity for creating wealth and employment. One of the most notable data of the study is the sustained growth of the Madrid audiovisual business fabric, which has increased by 56% over the last decade, with a particularly significant evolution in activities related to film production.

Madrid, a great audiovisual hub

In terms of infrastructure, Madrid continues to strengthen its position as audiovisual hub thanks to an installed capacity that exceeds 85,000 square meters of sets and production studios, a network of 537 movie screens and the celebration of 85 film festivals and exhibitions. Added to this is a high concentration of specialized companies and professionals in the sector, factors that consolidate the region's attractiveness for new investments and national and international productions.

The study also reflects a positive evolution in the demand for audiovisual content. The Community of Madrid registers the highest rate of cinema attendance in the country and presents a particularly digitalized consumption profile, with a penetration of streaming platforms higher than the national average.

The outlook for 2026 maintains this growth trend. According to the survey carried out among companies and agents of the Madrid audiovisual ecosystem, 61.9% plan to expand their activity during the next year. The production of content for OTT platforms and on-demand services appears as the main business opportunity, along with the internationalization of projects, the incorporation of new technologies and the development of audiovisual tourism.

During the presentation of the report, the president of the Madrid Audiovisual Cluster, Raúl Berdones, highlighted that the results reflect “the strength of an ecosystem that concentrates the largest volume of audiovisual talent in Spain” and pointed out that the next challenge is to consolidate Madrid as one of the great international hubs for production and content creation.

The study concludes that the combination of business growth, productive capacity, talent specialization and consumption evolution places the Madrid audiovisual sector in a favorable position to maintain its expansion over the coming years and reinforce its contribution to the regional economy.
