Filming of 'Maestras' begins, a reflection of the teachers' struggle against Franco's dictatorship

Oberon Media, Vilaüt Films, 3Cat y Saga Film They produce 'Maestras', a feature film directed by Judith Colell and inspired by real events whose filming has already begun in different locations in Barcelona.

With script Antonio Chavarrías and Judith Colell, the film, inspired by real events, is set in 1940, when five young teachers decide to challenge Franco's dictatorship and fight clandestinely for a humanist educational system. In this way, Teachers is configured as a historical drama which shows the legacy of the republican school and the clandestine struggle of groups of teachers who kept its spirit alive during the Franco era.

In the words of Judith Colell: "Our objective is to place at the center of history the anonymous work of these teachers and their schools, where love for culture, language and the formation of free citizens was cultivated. Spaces that contributed to keeping alive the spirit of the modern school in a context as repressive as that of the post-Franco war."

Teachers is defined as a character-driven movie, in which the stories of the five female protagonists show, from a realistic and human perspective, “the harshness and repression of the time, but also the resistance and hope for a better world.” Bruna Cusí, Daniela Brown, Nausicaa Bonnín, Greta Fernández and Natalia de Molina They star in a film whose filming has just begun and will take place over six weeks in various locations in Barcelona, ​​Mataró and Cardedeu.

The feature film is a production of Oberon Media, Vilaüt Films and Mestra Media 2024 A.I.E., in co-production with 3Cat y Saga Film. With financing from ICAA and ICEC, and the participation of Movistar Plus, the film will be distributed by Filmax.
