TVE has committed 320 million for sports and cinema until 2012
RTVE has committed 285.5 million euros until 2012 in the contracting of sporting events and another 34.3 million in premiere films.
In response to several questions from Izquierda Unida deputy, Gaspar Llamazares, the Spanish Radiotelevision Corporation admits to having committed a total of 117 million euros to sporting events until 2010, another 113.1 until 2011 and another 55.4 until 2012. According to Europa Press, the new TVE financing law establishes that the corporation cannot dedicate more than 10% of its annual budget to acquiring sporting events. of interest, excluding the Olympic Games from this name.
In 2004, the Corporation dedicated 20.45% of the annual budget for supplies, purchases and external services to the acquisition of broadcasting rights for sporting events of interest, while in 2005 the percentage was 13.22%, in 2006, 11.43%; in 2007, 9%; and in 2008, 9.4%.
For its part, the percentage dedicated this year to the acquisition of sports rights was 16.73%, an increase that the corporation relates to the decrease of more than 20% in expenses compared to previous budgets.
In relation to the budget that RTVE, according to the Europa Press agency, has committed to broadcasting first-run American films, for the remainder of 2009, the corporation has committed 6.6 million euros, compared to 19.6 million for 2010, 6.6 million for 2011 and 1.3 million for 2012.
According to the final wording of the law on the financing of RTVE approved by the Senate, the corporation will only be able to broadcast 52 premieres a year in prime time of films made by large international film production companies, a greater number than it broadcast until now, since in 2004 it broadcast 36 of these films, in 2005, 38; in 2006, 63; in 2007, 37; and in 2008 and 2009, 38.
On the other hand, regarding another of the issues that the new RTVE financing law addresses, the suppression of advertising as of 2010, the Corporation assures that between June and December 2009 it has closed agreements for 860,000 seconds, and has agreements for 537,000 more seconds in a very advanced phase of negotiation. In total, the closed agreements will mean income of 29.5 million euros for RTVE and those that are in process, 26.9 million euros.
