Madrid Film Festival-PNR: when experimentation is art

The 18th Madrid Film Festival-PNR, which will take place from September 10 to 17, will dedicate a cycle to experimental cinema under the title “Experimenta”, designed, organized and directed by Ana Solano.

El cine experimental supone una mirada diferente a la tradición, rompe convencionalismos y desafía al espectador proporcionando una transversalidad cultural que da cabida a expresiones artísticas difíciles de ver en una sala cinematográfica. La innovación en la forma de hacer y entender el cine es la mejor apuesta de apoyo a la creatividad de los nuevos cineastas, aquellos que quieren hacer cine a pesar de la crisis, a pesar de la competencia internacional y a pesar del mercado.

The idea is one of the many challenges in pursuit of national cinematographic quality that the 18th Madrid Film Festival-PNR has set out to promote, which will run from September 10 to 17, and takes shape in an experimental film series titled “Experimenta” designed, organized and directed by Ana Solano.

During the cycle, structured in two sessions, the following works will be projected: What they see (Cecilia Barriga), Weaving cities (Isis Saz), Lady Jibia (Sra. Polaroiska en sillón de taller – Alaitz Arenzana & Maria Ibarretxe), A movement (Iker Gómez), I was born a fish (Ana Solano), Doble (Alfonso Kint), Go surveillance (Elena Menéndez, Marian Venceslá), Villamiel. Lwith eternal voice (Ebba Rohweder), Addition Subtraction (Brais García Gen), Be what? Be what? (Andreas Isas), Clothes (Inma Guerra), Laundry of papers (Clara López) and The dream of the island woman (Marta Zein)

A renewed festival

The official headquarters of the festival this year will be the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid and it will screen all the official sections in competition, which this year also include several important novelties. There will be a feature film section, a short film section and the usual section for members of the New Directors Platform, organizer of the contest.

In addition to the Círculo de Bellas Artes, the festival will have two other venues, the Cine Doré of the Filmoteca Española and the Tis Theater Hall; an ambiguous space as a meeting point between the public and authors, and a daily series of after-dinner sessions dedicated to presentations and round tables at Café Galdós.

Among the programming, highlights include Mexico's attendance as a guest country and the exhibition of short films in a retrospective view of the last three years, the Documenta Madrid section, with the list of short films from the last edition, and the feature film series They Passed Here, dedicated to directors and actors who were or continue to be partners of the platform and who today enjoy prestige in the world of film and television.

A esta 18ª edición del festival de Cine de Madrid-PNR se han presentado más de 300 obras, lo que supone un auténtico éxito de convocatoria con respecto a ediciones anteriores. Entre los jurados encargados de hacer la selección de películas que entran a concurso están Gregorio Belinchón, redactor de cultura de El País, Víctor García León, director de cine y las conocidas actrices Pilar Castro y Sandra Ferrús.

El premio al mejor largometraje será de 7.000 euros y el correspondiente al mejor cortometraje de 3.000 euros, aunque todas las secciones a concurso contarán igualmente con premio en metálico y el Trofeo del Festival, diseñado por la artista asturiana Alicia Jiménez .
