Canal+ in widescreen 16:9

The recently launched Canal+ Liga abandons the 4:3 format and goes to 16:9. Progressively, Sogecable will convert all Canal+ premium channels, both in SD and HD, to widescreen format.

It was time for an operator to decide to abandon the old 4:3 to move to the 16:9 panoramic format more in line with the widespread fleet of large format televisions, which is already around a proportion of 7 out of 10.

The first channel that will broadcast all its programming in 16:9 will be the recently launched Canal+ Liga. However, Sogecable intends to progressively migrate its broadcast to widescreen format on all its premium Canal+ channels: Canal+, Canal+…30, Canal+2, Canal+ Fútbol, ​​Canal+ Deporte, Canal+ Eventos, Golf+, Canal+ DCine, Canal+ Acción, Canal+ Acción…30, Canal+ Comedia and Canal+ Comedia…30.

Curiously, Sogecable already carried out a panoramic broadcasting experience a decade ago with its channel Taquilla 16:9 and Canal+ 16:9. Both channels, evidently ahead of market demand, were suppressed in 2001 without pain or glory.
