Panasonic AJ-HPM200: portable solid state recorder

Panasonic updates its line of portable recorders with the launch of the AJ-HPM200, a portable recorder successor to the HPM-110.

Six slots for P2 cards, RS-422A remote port, USB2.0, FireWire400, eSATA and the possibility of direct editing from the hard drive or from the cards themselves are some of the new features of the new Panasonic AJ-HPM200 portable recorder. As for audio, it has AES/EBU audio inputs/outputs. Successor to the practical HPM-110, this new recorder allows you to achieve data transfers at speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps (via eSATA port), including a Gigabit Ethernet port and the possibility of transferring files via FTP. One aspect to note about this equipment is that both reading and editing the material can be done from an external hard drive or from the P2 cards themselves, being able to transcode the material directly to AVCHD. In this way, we achieve real-time scaling of formats so if the stored material is 720p we could output it directly to 1080p, for example. Additionally, it supports 24p timecode.

The AJ-HPM200 supports DVCPRO HD and AVC-Intra and optionally, with the AJ-YCX250G card, AVCHD, including the possibility of recording in said format.

Finally, an improvement long awaited by users. Panasonic has equipped the AJ-HPM200 with a waveform vectorscope.
