Nina Rosenblum, painter turned filmmaker, has returned to Valladolid after 10 years of absence from Seminci to present Roxy in cinemas In the name of democracy: America’s conscience, a soldier’s sacrifice, his latest documentary, the tenth with Dennis Watlington, which participates in the competition in the History Time section of the festival.
Both have appreciated the work of the entire team and Watlington, New York Theater writer and co-director, has explained that his motivation for making this type of feature-length documentaries is that they believe in making films about human courage. 'This makes us citizens of the world and, wherever we go and see this courage, we make these films that we adore,' they said.
The film focuses on the internal dysfunction that occurred in the United States during the events that culminated in the declaration of war on Iraq. And it does so through the perspective of Lieutenant Ehren Watada, the first American officer who refused to fight in Iraq, whose story constitutes a true exercise in patriotism. Watada concluded that
He was being deceived and decided to refuse to follow orders. The film offers a reflection on true American courage and the profile of a soldier who chose disobedience and honor.
