Walt Disney closes 2009 in Spain with a collection of 83.3 million

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Spain grossed 83.3 million euros at the box office in 2009, of which 18% came from 3D copies. Nine of the eighteen titles released this year exceeded four million.

2009 has been a good year for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Spain (WDSMPS), which has seen how the 3D format becomes a true magnet for viewers. There have been five films released in this format (A Christmas Story, Toy Story 3D, G Force, Up, y Jonas Brothers in 3D concert) which places WDSMP at the forefront of 3D technology. Titles like Christmas story by Robert Zemeckis have in fact grossed more in 3D than in 35 mm with much fewer copies: 2,566 MM in normal format and 2,977 MM in 3D. The number of rooms with 3D screens has grown exponentially this year: it has gone from 30 rooms in January to more than 200 today.

Titles such as A Chihuahua in Beverly Hills, Beyond Dreams, Hannah Montana. The Movie, The Proposal, Up, The Substitutes, G-Force, A Christmas Carol y Two very mature kangaroos. Up It is currently the highest-grossing film of the year, and has also grossed more than any title released in 2008.
In 2010, Disney will release five 3D titles in Spain: Alice in Wonderland, by Tim Burton (March 5); Toy Story 2 (April 16); Toy Story 3 (July 23), Rapunzel (November 26) and Tron. The legacy (December 17). Furthermore, we will see Tiana and the toad, the return to traditional studio animation (February 5); the new movie starring Miley Cyrus The last song (March 23); the long-awaited Prince of Persia: the sands of time starring Jack Gyllenhaal and The Sorcerer's Apprentice, from the same team that made possible The Search, el productor Jerry Bruckheimer, el director John Turteltaub y el actor Nicolas Cage.

Buen año para el cine en España

El año que ahora termina ha resultado muy positivo para el cine en España, donde se ha visto un incremento aproximado de 2.457.000 espectadores respecto al año 2008. Solo en el último fin de semana (25-27 de diciembre) se recaudó un total de 17.453.599 euros y 2.522.000 espectadores acudieron a las salas de toda España, una cifra que no se veía desde hace hace mucho tiempo.
