RTVE appoints González as director of TVE and Moreno as director of RNE

Santiago González leaves the direction of RNE and replaces Javier Pons, who has directed TVE for the last three years, while Benigno Moreno replaces Santiago González as director of Radio Nacional, where he was Director of Programs.

The Board of Directors of RTVE, at the proposal of its president, Alberto Oliart, has appointed Santiago González as director of TVE and Benigno Moreno as director of RNE. González, who until now was the head of Radio Nacional, replaces Javier Pons, who leaves Televisión Española after three years of intense work, leading a solid team and a staff of great professionals, who have placed TVE in first place in the Spanish audiovisual panorama at the end of 2009 and so far in 2010.
The new director of TVE, Santiago González, takes on the challenge of directing the network in this new stage without advertising, which began on January 1, and in which it is committed to maintaining the principles of independence, rigor and plurality, in addition to consolidating a television that is a benchmark for quality, that deepens public service and citizen participation.

For his part, Benigno Moreno, until now director of Radio Nacional Programs, fills the vacancy left by Santiago González. Moreno has contributed to making Radio Nacional close the year as the network that grew the most in 2009. His challenge is to find new ways to reach listeners without giving up the house's philosophy: the best information, plural debates and entertaining programs of public interest.

a young director

Santiago González, born in Tenerife 39 years ago, has a degree in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. His entire professional career has been developed in audiovisual media. In February 2007, he took charge of the direction of Radio Nacional de España, promoting, among other actions, the presence of public radio in interactive media, increasing its presence and following on the web day by day. During these years, González has also held the presidency of the Digital Radio Forum and has launched Impulsa DRM together with the Cope network and SER.

Santiago González's television experience is supported by his work as general director of the Ente Público Radiotelevisión Canaria, a position to which he was appointed in 2005. This same year, at 35 years old, he became the youngest president of FORTA, the Federation that brings together the regional television stations of this country. Previously, he had participated in the launch of the Canarian regional television, in 1999, and was also part of the news team of the Ser network. He was press chief of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council between 1997 and 1999 and also collaborated in other media outlets such as the Cope network in Madrid or the Metrópoli magazine of the newspaper El Mundo.

A radio man

González's vacancy is filled by Benigno Moreno (Zamora, 1961), linked to RTVE for 28 years and who has been one of the architects of the growth and consolidation of RNE, especially in the Programs area. Under his direction, the in-depth reports of “Documentos RNE” have been promoted, spaces such as “On days like today”, “Asuntos Propios”, “It's not just any day”, “Today everything begins” and “The blue station” have been reinforced, and the Radio Theater genre has been recovered. On the other hand, it has promoted bringing radio closer to listeners, moving studios to the street more frequently than ever.

Benigno Moreno has a degree in Information Sciences, Image and Sound branch, from the Complutense University of Madrid. He joined the RNE staff in 1983, as a sound technician. In 1992 he began to work as a director in programs such as “El mundo por montera”, with Fernando Sánchez Dragó, “La letra escarlata”, with Jesús Marchamalo, and “Sonidos del fuego”, with Jesús Hermida.

Moreno has received several distinctions for the work carried out throughout his professional career at RNE. Among others, in 2004 he won the Ondas Internacional Award for “La Travesía”; in 1998, the Italia Prize, for his work as director of the fiction “Heirs of Time” and in 1994, the URTI prize.
