Steadicam Merlin, smoothness of 'flight' with light cameras
Successor of the legendary Steadicam JR, the Steadicam Merlin has become a very widespread stabilizer among users of small format cameras or alternatives such as the Canon 5D and 7D.
The Tiffen Steadicam Merlin stabilizer is being used in countless productions with ultralight cameras. Considered by many to be the best lightweight handheld stabilization system, it supports mini cameras from 230 grams to 2.7 kg (in its standard version), weighs just over 350 grams (without counterweights) and comes in a hard suitcase with silhouetted foam inside.
The Steadicam Merlin allows you to record fluid videos, light shots, passes, sweeps... in a completely smooth way, sometimes giving the sensation of a floating camera.
As in any high-level professional Steadicam, in this case it is also essential before starting the first operation to get the entire assembly ready, balancing it.
A stabilizer for every need
Currently on the market there are several options that complete the Merlin stabilizer. The Merlin Arm is ultralight, 7/8 smaller in size than its older brothers Flyer, G-50 and G-70, and can work with cameras weighing between 1.1 and 3.2 kilos (adjustable using the payload lifting power control knob).
The Merlin arm also offers an enormous vertical elevation possibility (up to 71cm) allowing you to easily hold the camera above your head or waist. Like its older brothers, the Merlin arm includes two arm adjustment axes at a body angle so that different operator morphologies can adjust the elevation angle to their most comfortable posture. The arm is complemented by a vest that provides even greater flexibility even with two hands on the camera or with just one hand.
