The 3D of 'Avatar', through Fujinon lenses

James Cameron and Vince Pace, founder of Pace, chose Fujinon lenses such as the HA16x6.3BE (6.3-101mm) and the HA5x7B-W50 (7-35mm) for the stereoscopic production of 'Avatar', a model specially developed for the occasion.

Both the inventor of the Fusion 3D system and the award-winning Pace, Vince Pace, and the producer and director James Cameron, when faced with the complex filming of Avatar in stereoscopic they considered numerous possibilities for lenses that would adapt to the demanding 3D standards. Finally, they chose Fujinon.

Specifically, they used the HA16x6.3BE (6.3-101mm) and the HA5x7B-W50 (7-35mm) lenses in the production, a model specially developed by the Japanese manufacturer for this shoot.

Vince Pace, once this blockbuster was released, has recognized that "the path to success in 3D is full of a team effort. Working with James Cameron, developing the Fusion 3D camera system has been quite a challenge. At the beginning of the development phase, Fujinon intensified its staff, engineering resources and factory support to design lenses suitable for our demanding 3D standards. That relationship has developed over the last ten years and the results are evident in the screen. All cameras were paired with Fujinon lenses and the results were incredible.”

Fujinon and Sony, a perfect combination

Junto a los objetivos Fujinon Cameron y Pace trabajaron en Avatar principalmente con cámaras Sony HDC-F950, utilizando algunas HDC-1500 en determinadas escenas, emparejándose todas ellas con objetivos Fujinon.

Tanto Pace como Cameron tienen una larga historia de desarrollo de equipos de producción innovadores, y sus últimos esfuerzos que han conducido al éxito a Avatar han significado una revolución en el 3D tanto desde el punto de vista de la producción como de la propia creatividad incluso en las escenas más compejas: “a Cameron le gustan mucho las tomas en movimiento, y no duda en ponerse detrás del visor de la cámara y trazar líneas mano a mano con los propios actores. Ser capaz de igualar ese estilo en 3D utilizando los lentes Fujinon fue un factor importante en el esfuerzo de Avatar”, ha reconocido Pace.
