'Pelotas', on TVE, with P2HD technology from Panasonic
El Terrat chooses Panasonic's tapeless recording technology for the second season of the series 'Pelotas' due to the agility and speed it offers in the ingestion and editing of the filmed material.
The second season of the series Pellets has opted for Panasonic's P2HD tapeless recording technology. The technical team of El Terrat, producer of the television series, has chosen four Panasonic AJ-HPX2100 tapeless cameras to film the 13 episodes that make up the new season.
This camera, supplied for filming by Ovide BS, combines high image quality with all the benefits of solid-state memory recording. Its global multi-format capacity allows you to produce valid content anywhere in the world, with the freedom to work in both 1080i and 720p.
Pellets, tells the life of a group of friends who meet on Sunday mornings to watch 'La Unión', a Second Regional soccer team founded 50 years ago. The series, which was a success last season with 2.8 million viewers per episode, returned to the airwaves last Monday, March 15, in prime time, through La 1 de Televisión Española.
The second season required five months of recording, with an average of five hours of footage per day. Panasonic's tapeless technology has enabled faster editing and post-production processes.
The advantages of tapeless flow
Production director Albert Espel has admitted that "with the tape, recording with four or five cameras, at the end of the day we had 15 tapes, which had to be ingested at 1/1 speed and then edit and edit the content. With P2 technology, the editing of the second season has been done in real time. What we recorded in the morning was already being edited in the afternoon. In addition, the search for sequences is faster, thanks to the digital tagging and marking capabilities that allow tapeless recording."
But, Espel also highlights that the saving of time is also accompanied by the saving of material since "for example, with the issue of backups, this year I have everything on ten hard drives. Last year I had a hundred boxes of material."
Despite initial doubts regarding the use of tapeless technology, tests with the equipment convinced Albert Espel. "I was very reluctant and very afraid of the cards. I suppose it's something that must happen to many production directors, which is the fear that this material will be erased. With tape you have physical material that you take with you, while with cards you are afraid that a random blow could erase the content. We did tests and it really was fantastic," he explains.
For Oriol Massagué, Product Manager of PBITS Spain, “the fact that more and more audiovisual productions are betting on Panasonic tapeless technology demonstrates the importance of the IT workflow that saves time and material and the excellent results that P2 technology offers.”
